Youth Coaching

TAKING THE VILLAGE APPROACH

Personal support for your child

Our programs are founded on a holistic and preventative approach to the health and wellbeing of families. Through the Standing Strong Club®, Teacup Coach offers private and personal youth coaching for children.

I am an International Coaching Federation trained Master Life Coach and Master Neurolinguistic Programming practitioner, as well as a Standing Strong youth coach also trained in mental health first aid. Being a parent myself, I know sometimes our children need someone else to talk to. This is one of the reasons why Teacup Coach takes a village approach to supporting families and their children.

Private Youth Coaching

What is Standing Strong Youth Coaching?

Youth Coaching is designed to encourage growth in young people while providing guidance to empower them to thrive, now and into the future. The Standing Strong® youth coaching model is a personalized, solutions focused approach to support our kids through the challenges they face. Designed as a mental health early intervention and crisis prevention option, youth coaching is supporting, comforting, non-clinical, and family focused. Youth Coaching is for parents who are:

  • Looking for ways to support and empower their child in an uplifting and motivating way.
  • Wanting to maintain or build a stronger and more open relationship with their child.
  • Wanting to improve communication with their child.
  • Looking for personalized resources to help their child through challenges they may be facing.
  • Looking for ways to build a proactive safety network around their child.
  • Looking for positive and inspiring role models to help guide their child.
  • Looking for an alternative and/or additional options to counselling and psychology.

How Youth Coaching can help your child

The greatest influence in a child’s life is their parents. We’re here to help parents feel more supported, more informed, and less alone on their parenting journey. Youth Coaching is part of the village approach to raising and setting our children up for success.

A Youth Coach can help your child develop life skills and learn to deal with challenges, triumphs, and the ever changing nature of life. As a parent, we worry if our child is happy, are coping, and how we can help. Despite this, sometimes our children simply don’t want to discuss their lives with parents. A Youth Coach will not stand in as a parent, teacher or friend. They offer impartial, trustworthy support, without judgement. A youth coach can give a young person the chance to talk freely and confidentially about any area of their life. This may include school and family life, friends or anything else that’s on their mind.

Young people who visit a youth coach can benefit in the following ways:

  • talk openly about difficult subjects, such as bullying and relationships
  • see the world from a fresh perspective
  • set goals for self-improvement
  • learn to handle and manage emotions
  • get objective support, no judgement
  • build confidence, resilience, self-belief and social skills
  • be motivated and get inspiration
  • identify their values and how this plays out in their life
  • awareness of themselves and others

Benefits for parents

Youth Coaching can also have a great many benefits from the perspective of the parent. One of the greatest support systems we can give our children, is a safety net of positive, supportive and uplifting adult role models. Youth Coaching is part of the village approach to empowering children, while easing the pressure placed on parents. Youth Coaching is a gift of allowing someone to become your child’s personal cheerleader, sounding board and shoulder to lean on. While you’ll always want to be there for your children, sometimes, the fact is that some children believe certain parts of their lives need to be secret and or are not sure how to, or want to, share with their parents.

Youth Coaching is for parents/carers who are:

  • Looking for ways to support and empower their child in an uplifting and motivating way.
  • Wanting to maintain or build a stronger and more open relationship with their child.
  • Wanting to improve communication with their child.
  • Looking for personalised resources to help their child through challenges they may be facing.
  • Looking for ways to build a proactive safety network around their child.
  • Looking for positive and inspiring roles models to help guide their child.
  • Looking for alternative and or additional options to counselling and psychology.

How Youth Coaching works

Youth Coaching is designed to encourage growth in young people while providing guidance to empower them to thrive, now and into the future. Youth coaching is not therapy, but rather meet the child where they are at now and encourages them to expand their thinking and come up with actions to, for example, take forward to address a concern or progress towards a goal.

The first youth coaching session will focus on building rapport. It’s important that both you and your child are comfortable, feel safe and trust their coach. Future sessions will foster rapport and be planned with the youth coach asking a selection of questions to get an idea of where any problems lie, establish what kind of attitudes and values your child holds, and work out what actions are needed for them to move forward. Youth Coaching methods include journaling, games and activities, asking questions, encouraging and holding space for your child to express and be themselves.

Youth Coaching topics

Standing Strong offers a range of topics across four themes to support your child by youth coaching. There are over 1600 activities within the Standing Strong program resources.  While this is an extensive resource, coaching sessions and activities are guided by the child to what resonates with them.
